Bettina Freimann

Bettina Freimann is an independent curator and sinologist who lives and works in Hamburg. She studied Sinology, Cultural Studies and Art History in Leipzig, Tübingen, Hamburg, Beijing and Taibei and holds a Master degree in Chinese studies.

Together with Liberty Adrien she co-curated the independent artspace Âme Nue, where she realized numerous exhibitions of Hamburg and international artists since 2016 among which were aaajiao, Karo Akpokiere, Moshtari Hilal, Lu Yang, Tabita Rezaire, Buhlebezwe Siwani, Lorna Simpson, Hoda Tawakol & Ye Funa.

Since 2021 she is working as an independent curator being specialized on site-specific curation in public orn off spaces. As such she has realized the solo show of photographer Claudius Schulze Traces of Fragility in Kraftwerk Bille, the solo show of Parisa Azadi Ordinary Grief  in cooperation with Galerie Melike Bilir in the frame of the 8. Triennial of Photography Hamburg 2022, the performance SEEING/UNSEEING with Isaac Chong Wai for Âme Nue in front of Kunsthalle Hamburg and the group show Clear River, Calm Sea in Hauptkirche St. Katharinen in the frame of CHINA TIME 2022. In 2023 she is co-curating the group show IN OUR HANDS in the frame of Fotofestiwal Łódź 2023 together with Sithara Pathirana.
